A conversation with our Associate V.P. of Application Services

We have a current opening for a Web Developer that I recently posted so I wanted to catch up with our A.V.P. of Application Services to gain more insight into what the position was like and what might attract someone to apply. In the following video Dave Hoffman shares insights about the Web Developer role and also gives his thoughts on where I.T. at Pinnacol is heading, and what it's like to work in our I.T. shop. Dave is a pretty busy guy so I really appreciate him taking more time than planned to really go in-depth around some of the questions I had for him:

We also have other I.T. opportunities available in our Decision Support/Business Intelligence team. You can check them all out as well as apply from our company website.

Not just for those of a certain age...

One of the groups I belong to on LinkedIn is Interns Over 40. Through the group updates I noticed that they have recently revamped their website so I went out to take a look. The site, as is obvious by its name, targets those of a certain age, but guess what? Most of the tips are valid for anyone looking for a job regardless of how old or young you are. The revamped site does seem cleaner and better organized than before so kudos for the update!

Got Predictive Modeling Skills...?

The U.S. Department of Labor tracks statistics on the number of new types of jobs being created. Our opening for a Senior Predictive Modeler might not make that list as apparently it has been around for some time, but it was new enough to me that I was intrigued when I first found out we were looking for someone with this skill set.

What we are looking for is a strong self-directed individual who can work well both independently as well as part of a team and who has the ability and experience to create predictive models based on our data warehouse. This position will develop advanced, multivariate predictive models that identify profitable/unprofitable risks and enhance our ability to match rate to risk. It will also develop statistical and mathematical models to identify drivers of insurance costs and predict numerous other business outcomes and will provide expertise and assistance in implementing model results in ongoing business processes and analyze the impact of these models on the company’s growth and profitability.

If you are still with me and your eyes aren't glazing over then you might be a good fit for this unique opportunity. What also intrigued me was that the right candidate for this position could come from many different backgrounds including Actuarial, Information Technology, Economics, Advanced Mathematics/Statistics, or Insurance.  A graduate degree in statistics, applied mathematics or other quantitative fields along with a minimum 5 years advances statistical modeling experience in the financial services/insurance industry is required. Property and casualty or other related insurance industry experience would also be a plus.

If you have these skills and background please apply online at www.pinnacol.com/careers, or if you know someone who might be interested and qualified, please let them know about this opportunity!

Customer Service Representative Opening!

We are looking for a Customer Service Representative to join our team. Our Customer Service Representatives provide answers to customer questions via phone, internet, fax, and mail.

While not a typical large call center environment (our representatives typically handle between 60-100 calls a day with average talk times of 2-3 minutes) we are looking for candidates who have some call center or other customer service experience along with strong PC/software skills, able to type 35 words per minute and excellent communication and customer service skills.

This is a great position in which to join our company as we routinely promote from this level to positions throughout the company. If interested, please complete an on-line application via www.pinnacol.com/careers.
