Our Finance team has two opportunities open now. One is for an Accounting Associate and the other is for a Finance Intern. The Accounting Associate position is responsible for the daily accounting activities of Pinnacol's internal structured settlement program and travel and expense management program while also assisting with balance sheet account reconciliations. The Accounting Associate position also provides backup for our A/P and A/R staff when requested. For that position knowledge of accounting principles and practices, strong proficiency with EXCEL, WORD, and accounting systems and the ability to investigate, evaluate and provide solutions for issues encountered are required as are strong customer service and negotiation skills. Successful candidates for the Accounting Associate will have an Associate’s Degree in Accounting or equivalent experience on a year for year basis and will have completed a minimum of 15 college credits in accounting. Candidates should also have 2-4 years of related accounting experience (bookkeeping, Accounts, Payable/Receivable, or similar).
The Finance Intern position can start during the Spring or Summer semester and will last approximately 16 weeks. And yes, this is a paid internship! This position offers the opportunity to get hands on experience documenting business processes and performing testing of financial reporting controls while working in a professional and positive environment. Intern will be involved in planning, performing, and reporting on tests of financial reporting controls under the direction of the Financial Controls Analyst. You will benefit from exposure to audit, system and financial reporting concepts, to working with all levels of company management, and to the daily insurance operations of the company. Assignments may include testing of the controls over premium, claims, investments, payroll, receipts, disbursements, and systems. No audit experience is necessary, as training and guidance will be provided during the internship. However, candidates who have completed course work or who have direct work experience related to I.T. auditing is preferred. Candidate must have basic Microsoft Word and Excel skills, have a strong orientation to detail and be able to work independently. Excellent written and verbal communication skills are a plus. Intern must be willing to work approximately 16 hours per week. Work schedule may be adjusted to fit the intern’s academic schedule. Candidates should be seeking an undergraduate or post-graduate degree with an emphasis in either Accounting or Finance, have achieved either Junior or Senior level status, and have completed at least one intermediate accounting and one auditing course prior to the internship.
